Lesson 2.

Create service type

Overview: After you’ve discovered how to manage your drivers, it’s time to move on and work on some serious stuff. We proceed to service types your company provides and everything that has to do with it. Welcome! In this lesson, you will:

  • Create a service type
  • Manage service type rates
  • See how the price of your services is calculated
  • Manage taximeter modes

Creating a service type

The default setup of the My hub is so that all your drivers are linked to the “Classic” service type. This service type means that that the driver linked to it performs classic taxi services. In the app of your customers this service type will be represented with a yellow cab. You can add new types of services, and the rates actual for them. To do so, do to your My hub, and choose for “Service type” tab. Then press the “Add service type” button. After you press this button, you will get to see a pop-up window where you can provide all the details about your new service type. In this window you are able to:

  • choose between literally all types of services (from a rickshaw to a yacht);
  • set data on rate type, booking and pre-ordering possibilities;
  • configure the number of passenger seats;
  • set up the opportunity for other services to work at the new rate. After setting these data up, you are to press “Next” button and proceed to defining payment methods. After that you will proceed to specifying the fee type and the night rate - and you’re all set with your new service type!

Managing service type rates

After you’ve created a new service type, it is important to distinct the rates for it. Basically, you set the general rate for the new service type while creating it. The only necessary rate value is the value per minute. You will also be able to set your own parameters such as “per kilometer”, “for seat” (the flag down fee), and also the minimal and the maximal cost of the trip. However, you can always make changes in the rates after they are set, as well. To do that, you need to go to the “Service types” tab, choose the type you want to change, and click on it.

In the pop-up window (named “Edit”) you will be able to adjust general settings, payment methods, fee settings, and the night rates.

Calculating the price of your services

Now you’re familiar with settings for your services, it is handy to get to understand what all those settings mean practically.

As you already know, there are several settings:

  • The seat price (“Flag down fee”) -- set value for the service provided;
  • Price “per minute”;
  • Price “per kilometer”;
  • “Minimum” - the minimal cost of the ride any passenger will be charged for the service;
  • “Maximum” - the setting for a possible maximal trip cost. First you will have to know that if you have set a flag down fee, than this value will be automatically included into the “minimum” value. Now, let’s say your client is taking a ride of 2,5 minutes and 2 kilometers. Also, let’s say your currency is USD and you’ve set the following values:
  • (we will get back to the taximeter modes in the very next lesson). With the given data, the calculation of the price will be the following: 2x0.5$+2.5x0.4$+3$=2$+ 3$=5$.

If your client decides to drive a bit further, the minimum limit will be already reached. Which means the system will continue calculating the price of the ride based on the kilometer and the minute rate.

Managing taximeter modes

The taximeter mode is another setup of an important influence for your billing. In your My hub, if you go to the “Service type” tab, and then modify a service, as we’ve done previously, in the “Edit” window you will find the “Meter mode” under the “Fee rates” tab. There, you will be able to choose between two modes:

  • “Time+mileage”. In this mode the system will calculate the costs based on “per minute” and “per rate” values.
  • “Time or mileage”. In this mode the system will ask you to set one more value (speed threshold, km/h). This speed value will be the turning point for the system to calculate an adequate price. For example, if the speed is below the “speed threshold” norm, the ride will be priced per minute, and vise versa.

This means that if your drivers often have to do with the traffic jams, the “Time or mileage” mode will help you to optimize your pricing.

Your task for today: create the service types that your company is going to use.
